Named after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the Habanos brand Romeo y Julieta dates back to 1875.
The brand became world famous during the early 20th century under the leadership of Don ‘Pepin’ Fernandez because this talented businessman was one of the first to recognize the power of the lower third. During its heyday, no less than 20,000 different belly bandages were used for production. The brand’s variety of formats is also legendary – up to 1959 alone, over 1,000 different Vitolas were manufactured at Romeo y Julieta.
Winston Churchill, probably the most prominent lover of the Romeo y Julieta brand, who visited Havana in 1946, was honored in a special way. His preferred format, Julieta No.2, cigars with a length of 178 mm and a diameter of 18.65 mm were named after him. Even today, they wear golden waistbands with the name of the British Prime Minister and Nobel Prize winner.

Cuba was discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus. To celebrate the 500th anniversary since the discovery of Cuba, the new “Cohiba Linea 1492” with Siglo 1-5 was launched in 1992. In 2002 the “Cohiba Linea 1492” was expanded with the Siglo 6.
The leaves of the Cohiba represent the “selection of the selection” from the five best Vegas Finas de Primera in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis areas of the Vuelta Abajo region.
